Hour Glass Mineral Veil Primer Review
I am huge Chloe Morello fan and every product she recommends in her videos becomes a necessity for me. I know, terrible! She has very helpful tips and reviews but sure does not help in controlling my makeup hoarding issues. *haha*
Well, most of her videos, you could see her using the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, or as what she calls her “hands down favorite primer”. So, being the persuadable gal that I am, I recently made a purchase of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer at MUP Store (P1,600.00). I chose the small bottle with 0.33oz/8.95ml volume because boy oh! boy this primer sure is expensive! And for a first bottle I think this is a wise decision.
Let’s start with the claims of this primer:
- Mineral Primer
- Broad Spectrum SPF15
- Oil Free
- Paraben Free
- Fragrance Free
- Nanoparticle Free
- Gluten Free
- Synthetic Dye Free
- Sulfate Free
- Phthalate Free
- Vegan
Uses: Helps prevent sunburn
Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 4.20%, Titanium Dioxide 2.45% (both for sunscreen purposes)
Inactive Ingredients: Alumina, Cycloepentasiloxane, Hexyllaurate, Isododecane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl -4 Isostearate, Polysilicone -11, Polymethylsilsequioxane, Stearic Acid
It comes with a pump that can be removed so you can scrape the sh*t out of this expensive primer. You would want to make sure that you get all the product for a money well-spent.

Texture: Velvety, smooth and easy to glide on skin
Fragrance: No distinct smell
As per the product labelling, it seems to be more of a sunscreen rather than a makeup primer. But trust me, it does wonders other than protect you from the sun!
Before anything else, I want to let you know that I absolutely adore this primer. More than love, I truly adore it. Without looking at the price tag, this is a 5 out of 5 for me, given that I have tried Mac’s Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Face Lumiere (which does not sit well for many of my foundations, unfortunately.). But hey, majority of good products comes expensive. As the saying goes, cheap makeup is not good but good makeup is not cheap.
Half a pump for me is enough to cover my face with a thin layer. I prefer concentrating the priming on my T-Zone and not so much on the sides of my face. The velvety smooth texture makes it easy to apply this product. I prefer applying this with my hands to make sure that more products are placed on the skin more than the beauty tool I am using.
The Hourglass Veil Primer is a holy grail for me. It cancelled out my redness, minimized my pores when foundation is on top, made my foundation (L’Oreal Paris Leteint True Match in R2 Apricot Ivory) smooth even with one layer sheer coverage, makes your makeup matte, minimal oiling and the best of all, it makes your makeup stay put for a long time.
I will definitely try this out with my RCMA foundation and Kett airbrush foundation and see how well it sits with a cream and water-based airbrush foundation.
The photo below shows how it helped with cancelling the red patches in my face. I had no concealer on aside in my under eye area. It is usually noticeable when I layer just one foundation over a primer especially I prefer a sheer and more natural looking makeup when going out.

My verdict
4.5 out of 5. Minus .5 for the price if you are a thrifty person. I would definitely buy this again for personal use and for my clients/brides as it lives up to its claim and reviews. I better stop indulging in food and saving up for this.
